PRAYER – DO WE REALLY BELIEVE??
Pastor Bobby has been preaching on prayer this summer.  I would like to share some of my thoughts on the subject from a lay person’s perspective.

Why pray?  Well, Jesus prayed and He wants His children (you and me) to be like Him.  So I need to pray!

How do I pray?  Well Jesus gave us the top of the prayer food chain with the 24/7 “Our Father “prayer.  That would be a good prayer to pray daily – lots of meat in those words.

Are there other prayer directions in scripture?  Yes, lots!

·         At the end of Ephesians we are told that “Above all” we are to put on the whole armor of God for protection against the enemy (the devil and all of his demons) – you know “Feet shod with the gospel of truth, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith to ward off the fiery darts of the enemy, and the sword of the Spirit, which is His word”.  Since the enemy tries to kill, steal and destroy us every  day, we definitely need to pray the “armor of God“ prayer each day.

·         We are encouraged to pray without ceasing!  This is tough.  I have determined that if God is not part of my language I am speaking like the non-Christian world.  Christians are called to be Godly which is different than the world view.  It is my understanding that our forefathers made God part of their language and writings.  Let’s encourage each other to do the same.

Belief and faith.  Do you really believe God’s word?  Do you really believe “My God will provide for all my needs from His riches in glory through Jesus Christ”?  Or “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Or ---what is your favorite bible promise? Jesus used God’s word to battle the enemy—so should the Children of God.

Testimonies.  When God answers prayer, give Him the glory.  It is not luck (take luck out of your language)!  Become an “over comer” by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.   When God answers prayer, write them down and share them with others for encouragements.

Pray for our Nation –for Godly leadership.  Pray for peace and protection of our troops.  Pray for Bobby and the TUMC staff.  Pray for Godly missionaries and all pastors that lift up the name of Jesus.  Pray for healing, protection and other needs of your family and friends.  Pray for your needs and the desires of your heart.  Pray and share answered prayer.

Your brother in Christ, Bill Cross

The following is an email communication between Kirby Locklear and his son, Jason Locklear.  It is so easy to forget these men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day.   Please add Jason and the Locklear family to your prayer list!   Kirby, thank you for allowing me to reprint this exchange between you and your son.  I hope you will continue to keep us updated on Jason.  You must be so proud of your son.

“Dear Son

I forward this to let everyone know you are OK.

Even us veterans can’t imagine what you are going thru;  but we love you and miss you.  Not a day goes by we don’t think about you; and pray that God places a hedge of protection  around you the men of the 2/6 81mm Mortar Platoon.

Trust  your training; trust the  men under your command; trust the officers appointed over you; trust the USMC; and trust your nation.  But most importantly keep the faith:  in God and in family.  This, as all things will come to an end and I look forward seeing you upon your return.

I will follow this up with a private email, but do not hesitate to let me know if you need anything.

Love ,  Dad
