“The Week that Changed Everything”

This is holy week.  It started with waiving palm branches last Sunday and culminates at an empty tomb this Sunday.  For hundreds of years this week has held sacred and special significance for Christians all over the world.  This week calls us to walk from event to event which took place in the life of Jesus.  The thing that strikes me about this week is the immensity of the emotion, the swinging pendulum of pain, it evokes.  On Palm Sunday there was a sense of joy and celebration in the air – but the week has gotten more somber as it has gone on.   I have spent my whole life remembering the events of this week and still it stirs emotion from a place deep within me.  It is surely a week filled with a wide range of experiences.

But if you look at it from another angle, this is the week that changed everything.  Because of this week, I don’t have to be a prisoner to my sin and past.  My failures do not have to define me.  Because of this week, I have no reason to fear death – the sting of the grave is gone.  Because of this week, I learn something very vivid about how deeply God loves me.  Yes, this is the week that changed everything.  I think that’s why it’s so important to no skip glibly over this week.  Because when we do, we fail to see how valuable God thinks we are.

One more thing.  We are living in a time when people need something solid.  One thing is for sure – like it or not – this week is here to stay.  When we get past Easter, the events of this week will still be true.  When we are experiencing pain so deep we cannot even put it into words, this week will still be true.  When joy overwhelms our souls, this week will still be true.  For me, that’s a source of great comfort.  “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”  This is the week that changed everything for you and me.  Praise be to God!

I’m praying and pulling for you.

Bobby
