Remember the Resurrection
Did you hear about 40 year old Jeffrey Ingram? He left his house in
Washington State for a short trip to Canada. Somewhere along the way
Jeffrey forgot who he was, where he had been and where he was going! You
see, Jeffrey suffers from a particular type of amnesia known as dissociative
fugue state. The brain literally tries to wipe the slate clean.
Fortunately, through a massive media blitz, he was found by his family and his
fiancée. It should be said that this type of disease is rare – but we all
have the tendency to forget from time to time. This journey called life
can get so crazy and hectic that somewhere along the way, like Jeffrey, we lose
our bearings. We too can forget who we are, where we have been and where
we are going.
Easter has come to awaken us from our amnesia. Because of Easter, we
can know who we are. We are a precious child of the Father. We are
redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. We are victors over despair,
discouragement, and death. We are forgiven because Christ has paid the
price. The resurrection serves to remind us that we are infinitely
valuable in God’s eyes – no matter what anyone else may say or think.
The resurrection of Christ should also remind us where we have been and what
we have come through. You see, in order to “get it” we have to see the
resurrection from the whole picture view. Christ went through the most
horrible and demeaning death known. We have to remember where Christ has
been for our sakes. We should also remember where we have been. God
has reached out to us even when we deserved nothing. God has made us
worthy even through we are, in ourselves, totally unworthy. We have been
far away from God and yet not too far for the Cross to reach us.
When we remember the resurrection, we should certainly know where we are
going. You see, when Christ died, the sting was taken out of death.
This world is not our final home and the best is yet to come for all who have
trusted Christ as Lord and Savior. Because Jesus overcame the grip of the
grave, we are destined for eternity with Him and our loved ones who have died in
faith.
Take time this week to remember the resurrection - - - because of it, we know
who we are, where we have been, and where we are going. I’m praying and
pulling for you.
