“Time for Your Check-up”
One of the most important gifts we can give is honesty with ourselves.
Likely, we all have people around us who will tell us what we want to hear – but
what about those who will tell us what we need to hear. Are there people
in your life who love you enough to tell you the truth? Even more
important, do you have the ability to look at where you are in life (or in your
present circumstances) and be honest with yourself?
As I think back over the times in my life when I’ve needed to get a
“check-up” most of those times have been anxiety filled. How am I doing?
Do I have any cavities? Is my health still alright? Well, all of
these are important, but my concern is with the unseen. We are in the
season of Lent – a time for reflection and self-examination. This is a
season to really be honest with ourselves. Am I really growing closer to
Christ or am I just going to church and going through the motions? Our
personal time with God is crucial yet we get so busy that often the first thing
to go is “God-time.” Reading the Bible helps us deal with everyday life
yet we get distracted easily with other things. I wonder, do you have the
audacity to look at yourself? I mean really look at your life and where
you are in general. It’s been my observation that if we are honest, we
will likely discover that our relationship with God is not where it should be
and, truth be told, we’re really not putting the effort into making the time to
grow it.
Let me encourage you as strongly as I know how, take a good look. Make
use of this season to put away the things that distract you and/or distort the
image of Christ in you. God’s greatest desire is to have a relationship
with you – make it a point to return that desire to Him with your life.
Hope your check-up goes well.
I’m praying and pulling for you.
