The Legacy I’m Leaving
This morning I walked into my 4 year old son’s room to awaken him and it hit
me. As I watched him sleeping, holding Sparky, (that’s the favorite teddy
bear) I was struck with this thought, “What are the intangible gifts I want to
give him?” He has toys EVERYWHERE! He has nice clothes and he
doesn’t go hungry. In fact, by the world’s standards he has about
everything a child could want.
But what gift can I give him? I am aware that I’m leaving a legacy
every single day. My choices and my actions don’t just affect me; they
have a rippling impact on all those around me, most certainly my children.
Someone has said, “Character is who you are when no one is watching.” I
agree with that, but what about when people are watching AND when they aren’t?
My word to you this week is a reminder – you and I are leaving footprints
with our lives. And, there’s a high degree of possibility our children
will follow after us. There’s so much wrong in our world right now and
when I think about it, it can overwhelm me. I can’t do much about the
world, but I can make it better by what I leave behind. Our children will
make our world better only to the degree that we impact them in a positive way
filled with integrity.
Just remember the next time you see the children – you are leaving a life
footprint. I’m praying and pulling for you.
